Dreamcast Identification

Im looking at buying a Dreamcast and running homebrew on it, but don't know how to identify it as one that allows homebrew.
How can I easily identify it?

Forgive me for asking, but are the DC's out there that don't allow homebrew/burnt discs/etc?

I've been out of the DC scene for a long time now, and hadn't heard that at all.

From what I've heard, ones manufactured late into their lifetime only allow the running of homebrew through the use of modchips.

I don't remember the date, but just download and burn the Utopia boot disc. If it runs, you're good to go.

Yeah, it was just that this person has 5 dreamcasts for sale, and wanted to know if I could ask them to pick out one with a specific serial or something.

only the hello kitty limited edition model has the cdr booting removed, the rest of the models are fine

most dreamcast stuff is CDi which is self booting, you don't need utpoia boot disc anymore.
