First download https://smealum.github.io/ninjhax2/boot.3dsx and put it onto the root of SD.

Then, install BrowserHax https://gbatemp.net/threads/yellows8s-browserhax-thread.398132/

To use Themehax/HomeMenuHax:

1. Download the latest unofficial offline Themehax 1.3 here :https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-homemenuhax.398124/page-23#post-5717329 . This is untethered version so you don't need internet access in case you need to reinstall later.
2. Delete themehax_installer folder (if there is one) inside the 3DS folder on your SD. Copy "themehax_installer" folder from inside the zip you just downloaded, into "3DS" folder on your SD. (Merge/overwrite folder won't work because leftovers of old online themehax version will corrupt the new offline themehax).
3. Go to Home Menu Settings (the House icon on top left of the bottom screen) -> Change Theme -> Wait for the data to be created -> Exit back to Home Menu. Right now, it's not supporting custom themes (at least for common users) so better leave/restore it default.
4. Start HBL using Browserhax.
5. Install ThemeHax by just following on-screen instructions. Now you are free to delete browserhax by reset the browser.

Optional: To use auto boot after install themehax -> configurate -> choose option 1 by pressing A button then tap bottom screen.

Edit: To update payload to hax 2.5:
  • Look for Otherapp/ ropbin payloads section
  • Pick the correct model, firmware and region of your 3DS. Then download ropbin.
  • Rename that ropbin after the one themehax generated on the root of SD
  • Copy that bin onto root of SD. Overwrite the old one.
  • Launch HBL through themehax again and test Eshop
Update: to update to Homemenuhax/themehax 2.0 from this version 1.3:
  • Download the "homebrew starter kit"
  • Look for Otherapp/ ropbin payloads section
  • Pick the correct model, firmware and region of your 3DS. Then "download otherapp".
  • Rename that payload bin into menuhaxmanager_input_payload.bin
  • Copy that renamed bin onto root of SD.
  • Copy the "menuhax_manager" folder inside the starter.zip into 3DS folder on the SD.
  • Launch HBL -> Menuhax_manager v2.0 installer -> First option "Install" (you don't have to re-set up how you want to boot because new hax just use the cf file from the old hax)
  • You are free to delete menuhaxmanager_input_payload.bin on the root of SD now.

Do you already know how to access the homebrew channel through a means other than themehax? By that I mean, have you tried Browserhax, Ironhax, or Ninjahax to access the homebrew channel? Because you'll need to actually be able to access the homebrew channel before you can install themehax.

Unless I am very much mistaken (and I hope to god I am because it would solve my current problem), the firmware spoof that allows you to access the eshop and do system transfers on consoles that are not fully updated requires kernel access. Basically you can't do what you want to do.

Man, I thought you would have done with ThemeHax. Let's troubleshoot:

1.Copy all 3DS folder to your PC.
2. Inside 3DS folder on the root of SD and delete all files and folders
3. Delete Old themehax installer folder inside the 3DS folder. Copy themehax_installer in this Themehax 1.3.zip into the 3DS folder on the SD https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-homemenuhax.398124/page-23#post-5717329
4. Go to Home Menu Settings (the House icon on top left of the bottom screen) -> Change Theme -> Wait for the data to be created -> Exit back to Home Menu. Right now, it's not supporting custom themes (at least for common users) so better leave/restore it default.

You got two themehax installer folders: 1 in Nintendo 3DS foldeer, 1 in 3DS folder. Delete both. And copy the themehax_installer folder from the Themehax 1.3 offline zip into the 3DS folder. Then Launch HBL and install themehax. That should work for you.

I think you have the old payload, from 2.1 ninjhax instead of 2.5. Can you try if the L+R+down+B combo to exit to hb launcher works from a homebrew you've launched from HBL? If not, then you're probably not using 2.5 hax

Go find out your exact sysnand version number, and go to http://smealum.github.io/3ds/ to the otherapp/ropbin section and get the ropbin payload for your exact version (you need to use the dropdown number buttons). Replace the menuhax_ropbinpayload.bin on the sdcard root folder with the file you download there.
