some time ago there was a talk about trying to emulate dos on DS. yes, it's true, the DOSbox DS was stopped because it was in 80-90% of cases it was sloooow. anyway, i dug up the old version and here it is. Enjoy!

original thread: http://forum.gbadev.org/viewtopic.php?t=15255
rapidshare: http://rs175.rapidshare.com/files/101770848/dosboxds.tar.bz2

as far i know:

this wont work with Supercard DLDI (freezes when trying to load an application)
and it is slooow in most of the cases.

but theres one BUT. no keyboard. to run the game you have to specify it in .conf file.

EDIT: Warcraft1 doesnt run, Stunts ask while starting for disk B (WTF?), M602 will go crazy and freeze, will test Dinopark Tycoon and Ignition
EDIT2: Ignition will freeze at the logo, Dinopark tycoon wont get thru the main menu and slow (but not extremely slow)

This has been posted in the emulator section before.

Anyway, we should all make a compatabilty list.
I think that dos games website is illegal.

But not something you're likely to get busted for right?

I have a guilty pleasure. I like playing the old kid's edutainment games called the Treasureland series:

Treasure Mountain
Treasure Mathstorm
Treasure Cove
Treasure Galaxy

Here's Treasure Mathstorm:

Those are still fun for me to this day!

I also like the ones geared at slightly older kids, the Super Solvers series:

Outnumbered
Midnight Rescue
Gizmos and Gadgets (my favorite)
Mission THINK

And here's Outnumbered:

I loved these games as kids and sometimes still have a go on them! They only run in DOSbox on the PC though as new versions of Windows won't play them properly.

I also loved Rayman for DOS, but the odds of getting THAT running on a DS is nearly zero. Oh well, there's always the GBA port (which is pretty decently done)!

"Warez" - ROMs, WADs & ISOs

"Warez" is an internet term used to describe copyrighted software, game, film, music and data piracy.
We DO NOT HOST or PROVIDE ROMs/WADs/ISOs; or link to websites that do contain ROMs/WADs/ISOs.
Members may NOT ASK and MAY NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION or LINKS for and to places that provide ROM, WAD, and ISO files.

We do not condone piracy in any way.

These rules also apply to other "warez" too, not just ROM, WAD and ISO files; this includes (but is NOT limited to) - licensed and copyrighted software, code, movies, music, video games, magazines, comics, e-books, television shows, illegal torrents, etc. These rules also account for "keygens" and "cracks" including how to obtain, apply or install them.

oh, bloody hell, I remember that one..... was fun

I have to agree though, is it possible to get a list of games that DO work? settlers II on the DS would rock.... but I would settle for battletech or space hulk...

On a semi-related note, it might be useful to have a list somewhere of DOS games that have been ported to the DS.

On the homebrew side, there's Doom, Wolfenstein, Commander Keen, Heretic ... the rest.

Commercially, there's Doom (GBA), Wolfenstein (GBA), Rayman (GBA) ... Commander Keen wasn't a port, it was a new game, same goes for Jazz Jackrabbit. Oh, The Lost Vikings (GBA), the SNES and Genesis versions could probably be played with homebrew, too ... the rest.

Actually abandonware is perfectly legal, if a company who makes games declares and old game to be abandonware, people can download it, I actually downloaded Stargunner off the Apogee website, so I dont it was put there illegally, as it was both declared abandonware and put there obviously with Apogee's knowledge.

In short you are wrong, and maybe fat

What's with all the 1~2 year old topics being bumped today?

As for the whole legality of Abandonware... it's a gray area partially because there is no clear definition of Abandonware.

Some of it is software that has become 'forgotten' by the company and any mention of the sale or support of the software has been completely removed. Sharing this type is still illegal.
Other Abandonware is as such because the company that created/developed/produced/etc the software is defunct and the rights to said software haven't been picked up. I'm not sure if sharing this is illegal or not though since there is no longer anyone to hold the rights.
Finally, some Abandonware is commercial software that has been made freeware like Halloween Harry/Alien Carnage. Sharing this is legal so long as you follow the terms set by the developer.
