Hello, I'm considering to set up emuNAND on my vWii. I know that USB Loader GX emuNAND has some compatibility issues regarding N64 games so that's why I'm considering to set up NEEK. However I've also read that NEEK emuNAND disables the SD card and/or the external USB drive. I'm wondering if I set up an UNEEK would that only disable that specific USB drive (possible partion) for other Homebrew stuff or does UNEEK disable all kinds of external storage regardless of the emuNAND is on that external storage or not?

If I remember correctly sneek disables the SD card slot when you access the emunand directly. This means that when you're inside the emunand the console will not detect the SD card. Haven't really tested if this is still the case for backup loaders, I guess you could try setting up an emunand on USB and then in usb loader set the save path to SD and see if it works. If not it doesn't matter much, you don't really need access to both SD and USB for your emunand as it doesn't need too much space. Mine is around 3.5 gb in size and has pretty much every wiiware and virtual console game I want to play.

I'd suggest only using neek for games that need it. do everything outside of that. once you close a game, the system will restart anyway. also, the length of time it takes to load neek is proportional to the amount of content, so it could take from seconds to minutes to load a game depending. put all other emunand games in their own emunand, then select the neek nand in games that need it -- their game settings.

What exact purpose does NEEK even serve anymore? Isn't it just a needlessly complicated way to have an emunand on your Wii/vWii? I just use USBloader GX for emunand features (which I use for more Wiiware than the Wii/vWii's small internal memory will allow, and loaded it up with DLC for the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games), its so much more straightforward and quicker than what I remember NEEK being like. Unless, am I missing something, is there anything more to NEEK that I'm just not remembering?

edit: just reread your post, I didn't realize some N64 titles gave USBLoader GX's emunand issues... but is there a reason you don't instead install N64 VC titles and injects directly to the Wii U menu? Is only your vWii side hacked and not the Wii U proper? If the issue is the dark filter, you can remove that pretty dang easily, and you can make them widescreen as well, both via FTPiiU

certain games do not work without neek. castlevania rebirth adventure is a well known one.

as per my experience, the valis 2 inject also does not go past the intro anime. I think it black screens without neek.

Ah ya know what, that's one of the few games I installed to my vWii's NAND directly, only because I have a forwarder from my Wii U menu so I can play the game with the Wii U GamePad if I desire. I have a small handful of those games, like Mega Man 9 and 10 as well. So it would seem I inadvertently got around that issue and didn't even realize it was one at the same time. As I recall there were very few problematic WiiWare games like this, though i do now remember hearing about Castlevania Rebirth years ago being such an issue. Seems like it'd make sense to just install the few of those to vWii NAND, and keep the rest in the USBLoader emuNAND. Again though, it appears OP's concern is about N64 VC titles, and again I wonder why they wouldn't' instead install Wii U side N64 VC titles and injects, you even get more compatibility on the Wii U side as well (and obviously there is Wii64 and Not64, but I'm operating under the assumption that emulators are not of interest to OP).

you can install them to the nand, but I'm not sure how many games require neek. right now, I only have two using neek2o on the wii u. you do have to install them twice, once on regular emunand for them to appear, then a second time using the neek nand so that they'll work. if you want games on the sd card to work, you also need to patch the system menu ios which I think is ios 80. instead of doing that, I chose neek. don't put all games under there, because the time it takes to load is proportional to the size of the nand. it could be any size, but I don't recommend it, because it could take minutes to load.

I'm not sure what's going on with n64 injects. I've never tried one. I have the games I bought plus any I pirated, and I've not encountered issues.

btw, neek2o also causes the system to restart upon exiting. the wii has a channel to do it, but since the wii u restarts, it's not needed.

Well I can tell you that Castelvania Rebirth installed as a wad directly to the vWii NAND works just fine on my Wii U. So if you only have 2 games on your Wii U that needs to use Neek and Neek is annoying at all, maybe it might make sense to just install them to the NAND directly and not deal with that stuff.

that's only two games that I know of. it's already set up to load the games from usb loader gx. there are quite a few more games that have this problem, but I downloaded a huge wiiware dump from the iso network before they closed:

Oh you should see the Wiiware on my USBLoader's emuNAND, it may possibly have every known English wiiware title ever. Can't say I've run into any problematic games that wont load, but I'd also be lying if I said I've tried booting every single title. But all my favorites that I've tried work just fine.

the wii u is my favorite system. I'm playing it at this very moment. I've done every exploit aside from the system menu of the virtual wii. if you have that many wiiware games, I suggest you make a backup of it in case the wii u fails.

Likewise dude. The problem with the wiiware games no longer working one day likely wouldn't be the Wii U failing though it would be the USB drive that I've stored them all on (and I backed that up a long time ago anyway, don't worry about that), as it is I can easily move that drive from my vWii to my old actual Wii, load up USBloader there, and load up all the same emuNAND wiiware titles without issue. Even keeps allt he save files for those games too, pretty great in that respect. In fact that's where these games all came from, I didn't have to download them for my Wii U, I had downloaded them year ago when I was hacking the shit out of my original Wii. Was so ecstatic in how easy those were to then bring over to my Wii U when I hacked that out, just unplug the Wii USB drive and plug it in as my vWii USB drive.

you can no longer download the wiiware stuff. it 404 errors when downloading the ticket. that's what got me to thinking that nintendo doesn't technically remove the ability to download content once a store closes, but rather they remove the ability to buy it. I was able to download a game with nus, but the ticket wouldn't download. wii u tickets, possibly even wii and switch ones, remain on the console even if you format. that may be what nintendo's thinking was, prevent the user from deleting the ticket, then we can close the shop or remove a game from downloading, yet still allow the account that bought the game to redownload it. I believe the ticket is for decryption purposes, then it serves as acknowledgement that you own the game. I think the ps4 may be the same.

Yeah I didn't download direct via NUS or anything, I just got a huge .wad collection from one of those iso sites that shut down a year or two ago.

you should be good then. I bought about 75 games on the wii u. I'm curious if I can still download them once the eshop closes. I'm thinking yes if my theory is correct.

Oh I know I'm good lol. My Wii U is a beast of a machine and I fucking love everything that it's capable of.

it's highly underestimated especially when people forget that it can emulate several other systems. it's like the psx classic of the normal consoles in that it may have been a flop but hacking it makes it awesome as hell.

You know you got me thinking of something interesting I came across on my vWii. When I connected my wiiware games to the vWii, I noticed that the DLC for the Wiiware (specifically Mega Man 9 and 10 was where I noticed) wasn't showing up, even if I reinstalled the DLC .wads again and again. I was confused, but I did a little research, I found someone suggest to someone with a similar observation to just connect the vWii to the Wii shop channel just once. I did that, even though you can't buy anything on there anymore, and sure enough, after doing that, the missing DLC in the Wiiware games, suddenly appeared. Quite interesting. But it does get me believing that as you've speculated, even when the Wii U shop does eventually close that you'll still be able to reinstall games you had bought in the past.

I remember something similar. I do know that wiiware with ustealth presents a problem unless you use a certain FAT library with cios installs. @Cyan led me to that when wiiware wasn't working. it would detect it, but black screen. I had issues with the dlc there after, but I forgot how I fixed it. mega man 9 and 10 were what I used, since I'm a big mega man fan. I remember trying to sign in, then finding that the store had closed in January of 2019.

the Ustealth drive and EmuNAND with the updated cIOS FAT module is for vWii only.
I don't think there were a version for wii. but on Wii, you don't need Ustealth ;)

You can find more information, and the file itself, in the Ustealth's thread first post :)
Too bad I never made a new "full vWii pack" with that version included.
