I tend to abuse savestates in emulators.

Protip: Play in real hardware, it's not possible to spam F1 and SHIFT+F1 :P
i do the same thing. especially when there's slot machines or other luck based things. when playing on emulator i also tend to use frame skip way too much. makes the game at actual speed unplayable after a while =[

Yes. Every 30 seconds on Skyrim and Source games ( SPECIALLY Half Life 1 and 2 )
Ojections!!!

quicksave on A-A series....:yay:

Oh boy. That too. Every time before I had to make a choice I would quicksave. It's annoying to have to turn the console off and turn it on again, but it was worth it

I've abused savestates on occasion, especially in shmups, where I tend to die a lot and death means restarting the level or at the very least losing significant progress in a level.

You can use L+R+Start+Select to reset the game. I do this a lot too :P

Can't blame you for abusing savestates in luck-based minigames and such because those types of things are cheap and unfair anyway. Although not luck-based so much(I'm just bad at it) I abused the fuck out of savestates when I replayed FF8-9, namely 8 with both of their card games. The constant rule changes in FF8's triple triad totally wrecks it for me so abusing savestates is fair game imo. I'm just bad at tetra master and am not a fan of card games in general.

One word: YES! :D

No, I don't pretend it's actually the same as beating a game, but at least some older games become actually playable like that. :P

But even then...take the first Wario land on gameboy. There was this minigame at the end of each level where you can gamble your earnings (double or nothing) up to three times. The state is predefined somehow, so when losing something, a quick reload and choosing the other option ensures a win. :P

I did the same thing. Sometimes your opponents would pull amazing cards out of their you-know-what, and I'd think to myself "How was I supposed to play around a card with two A's?!" Actually, I abused save states with pretty much any minigame...

I only do it if

Losing or dying makes a major change in the game (FE

If I need to because I have to do something

I it is getting too hard (like after 6 tries)

To test things like trades or what not

Generally tho I only have one or two save states in emus

I used to play without it, but I remembered I could use that!

Though, It still depend on the game.
I use savestate when I can't save but have to stop playing, in case NDS battery dies while in sleep mode, I won't lose progress (because SuperCard DSTwo is really hungry on battery and I often have the console depleted when I open it).
I also do it before or while doing a hard boss battles if I can't manage to do it the normal way after few tries. instead of losing time, I "cheat" on surviving. But I prefer doing savestates than using cheatcode for infinite HP.

Not all game or consoles let me do that, so when I can't savestate I just play safe, don't hesitate to go far away back to find a save before doing something dangerous/boss/etc.

About skyrim picking locks, I also always save before doing anything that could fail. It's not like it's cheating, the game let you save whenever you want. why not use it?

I also tend to switch save slot or keep few of them when I can (mass effect, skyrim, etc. lot of save slots,)
Just in case I did something wrong, I can reload an old save and do things differently. but I rarely reload a very old one unless I've really mess it up.

I can also abuse savestate to try different scenario. (Xenoblade and the multi-branch face-to-face cutscenes, save try one, reload try another one, reload try another until I see all possible outcomes), this is only for the purpose of seeing everything the game has to offer without replaying the game from the start.

The game also lets you use console commands, but that doesn't mean using them isn't considered cheating. Like you said, there are some legitimate uses for both: saving when you need to stop immediately and using commands to progress a bugged quest, but outside those and a couple other situations, it certainly cheapens the games.

Quicksaves like save states no I consider it cheating especially in a game where a loss changes things, but from time to time I do save before boss fights and if I lose I lose since using save states does not affect RNG in a game like final fantasy.

I'd rather call it "making the most of what you have" :P

Having said that, I don't actually use it that much. I do remember using it in games like Ace Attorney because I have a tendency to want to view EVERY possible scenario. So having quicksaves allows me to do the silly stuff and not have to sit through everything else when I decide to go down the actual route.

Yes. I hate having to go through a section of a game more than once.
I've already completed this part. Why would I have to do it all over again?

Wanna bet?? I used the supercard rts for critic choices when playing ds.

For me it only depends on the difficulty/frustration factor of the game, on american mcgee alice I quicksaved before and after every difficult obstacle/jump/group of enemies(that means very often).

Well, I admit I slowed down some games during fast action passes in my dstwo lol

I rarely do.

Back in my youth I used to watch a lot of Doom custom wad videos. The players ALWAYS used savestates for the stupidest shit, like taking a blow. That's not a fun way to play a game.
I use savestates when I'm stuck in some part of a level and there are no checkpoints nearby. I am playing Bit.trip RUNNER on my 3DS at the moment, level 3-9. The game lags a lot during some parts of the game, making it very frustrating and unfair. If I had a flashcard, I would savestate/rewind the shit out of that level.

I swear that i use 50% of the save chips read/write cycles on just the first playthough of any pokemon.

The SD card in my 3DS is getting a read/write cycle workout lately too with Legend Of Legacy.

Yeah if you're gonna reload a savestate every time you get hit you might as well just use God mode. Takes all the challenge and tension out of playing and that goes for any game, not just Doom.
