I have spent hours on the google android store looking for a FTP app that does not have the in app purchase bs, works on the latest os (6.0), and is up to date (most FTP apps were last updated in 2015, which means bugs are imminent). I even looked on F-droid to see if they have any FTP apps but they don't have :shit:.

Try ES File Explorer. While it is primarily a file manager app it does have support for FTP, SMB, and many cloud services as well. Note that it requires root to write to the external SD on Android 4.4 but I think it works normally with SD cards on 5.0 and 6.0 without needing root. And yes, it is a root file explorer (the only free one I know of) if you happen to have root.

You would think with a unlocked phone you would or should also get access to the sd card no matter what. Fuck now I have no choice but to root my phone. fucking phone companies.

Not necessarily. I am pretty sure that apps can get full access the external SD card on 5.0 and 6.0 without root. Though 5.0 might require changing a per-app setting. I do know that 4.4 requires root for that though.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
