You will need internet connection to launch rxTools through the web browser. However, rxTools allows you to downgrade your DS Profile known as the MSET which allows you to launch rxTools offline. There is also a guide for installing rxTools on your 3DS and you'll see the options you have there.

Basically, since no one did answer the question properly. You can pirate without the Gateway flashcart. The ISO site everyone refers to have the collection of games in CIA format which you need in order to install them. Yes it takes long, probably around 30 mins max(depending on the size of the game), but if the size of the game is not very high, it shouldn't really take that much time to install.

PS. I don't get why people always bring shit that is irrelevant to the question asked by the OP. I like Gateway's convenience(don't own one and never bought one), but the guy wants a free solution/asked if it's necessary to also buy the Gateway which in this case is not really necessary since there are multiple free solutions available now.

Are you trying to imply that I'm an anti-Gateway pirate? If so, you're wrong on both accounts. I own a Gateway. I bought it because I wanted to play a number of Japanese games that were unlikely to get a western release. A week after it arrived I discovered that I could use Classic Mode to play actual Japanese carts. So I never needed to download a single ROM, because I coupd just import any Japanese game I wanted to play.

Yep that's right, I buy my 3DS games. A novel approach, no? I'm certainly not anti-gateway, without it I wouldn't be able the Taiko no Tetsujin series, or Rune Factory which didn't receive a release in European stores. That said, I have been keen to break free of Gateway's incredibly limited Classic Mode, so I've jumped ship to reiNAND. Gateway has nothing to offer me anymore because I don't pirate Nintendo games, period.

Trolling is a art form. Keep it short, simple, and straight to the point. The longer your bait text, the less likely people are to read it, making the pool of potential victims even smaller.
