Installation to Mstick is for people playing from UMD to minimize load times. As you have a custom firmware, i'm pretty sure you use an ISO and so you're already playing from Mstick. You don't need to install as it will even slow down the game.

Data install is useless if you're running an ISO/CSO. If you're running 5.00 M33-6 you can enable "Fast Memory Stick Access". It achieves the same effect, but it's a little slower. I tried this and loading times for MHFU were faster than without "Fast Memory Stick Access".
