To all who have posted over the last few pages over downloaders, etc.....
Maybe I am seeing this all wrong but I want to give my opinion over these past few pages.
Why is everyone making such a "big" deal about this statement @wiibricker made? As an "outside" observer , I agree with points from each direction and I do think ModMii has helped the "scene" out in so many directions so wonder why everyone is getting frustrated over nothing. I think @wiibricker has a good point and to me it really isn't about "1" project. I think the world and this Internet would continue fine tomorrow if the project dies and/or if direct links were taken away. I think it is the fact that more people would be bothered if the change happened in support of using these download enablers over a project that a small percentage of the Internet population use... Maybe I am wrong though, maybe they are more effiecient now and have less drawbacks and support for scripting, etc.. I understand the view against things like this and I think many people in the "free" or GPL world do also.. I am at a loss though, is this costing Crediar money? Sounds like the reason people support this change??!!??!! I thought Google Code hosted for free??
As for being the Authors choice, yes it is his but a minor statement in my opinion taken with such backlash shows true immaturity of people (the same who maybe calling others immature) in my opinion. Yes we all have the "rights" to express our feelings, but jumping on people for these things to me show who the true cowards and or people that "brown nose" maybe. The man had a valid point and if you guys don't think more and more developers taking the leap to these types of file hosting I am sure will see.. I myself see it way more likely government taking down "hosters" than Google taking files "offline."
Last but not least, DM(L) is a great project and I find it useful (probably more than the current competition) but coming from BBS days (16550 baby) to the internet itself has been fun in watching the "children" play... It is what we make it, yes some a playground but the matter to me is the direction we are bringing it and again in my opinion the best thing that has happened in 15+ years has been Linux, GPL and what this has done to greedy people and companies like M$.. I am all for keeping things free on all sides, if people want to make money, create a project that the "corporate" world can sell and go get a suit or keep it all free and stop supporting the companies that are locking things down. That being said - sad Google is starting to lock down so many things they used to support as being "Open". So what do we do, we all rip on someone who see's these things starting to happen in their roots and makes a statement and then gets bullied b/c of it, that is childish to me..
I hope we can take this out of the playground pretty soon, i'm a little too muddy.
So now that I ranted on this ambien induced opinion, I am looking forward to new (DM) and am wondering how Cred is supporting multi-disc and streaming audio. I really like the widescreen hack addition and am extremely anxious for a new release and haven't been this excited since my old BBS days in early 90's (I helped beta test VSMC when it pretty much played SMB only) and been a Nintendo fan since day 1 of consoles (still have all my original Nintendo and boxes in my collection." Things like this are keeping Nintendo exciting, lets keep the politics with them and the fun with us!
