I had issues, but those disappeared when I installed the DM update. I had to remove it and instal DML in order for my original GC work.
Now, the only game that did not work was SW: Clone Wars, I get to the loading screen and then it kind of freeze...
Oh, and the only way to play GC games is by using cfg usb loader.
GX and DM booter gave me the dsi error...
I have a chipped wii.

From what I gather, early chips like Wiikey v1 and YAOSM basically tell the drive that DVD-Rs are authentic. I don't think that this authentication should interfere with DM, in part because many games don't even need a disc to be in the drive to run, so there would be no need to call on the modchip to authenticate. Perhaps someone with a deeper understanding of how modchips work could comment?

Like many others I'm getting a black screen whenever I try to start a game. I even tried making a new partition and still black screen on everything. Very annoying hopefully it can be fixed and if it is working for you enjoy it for me.

My drive seems to shut down with it installed, if I try to play from the disc channel, from an original or copy (just to eliminate incompatible usb devices etc), disc is authenticated as a gamecube game, but when you tell it to load, the drive just stops spinning the disc and the disc slot blinks once and black screen. Take dios mios away and they launch fine again.

Behaviour is the same when trying from usb as well.

Same as Armadillo here.

I now tried and installed DM Lite 1.5 wad.
Tried launching DiscEx compressed Pikmin from SD card through DM Booter and now i get a Stack Dump.
Launching original through Disc Channel is still blackscreen.

I thought installing it only took away loading copied discs if you are softmodded (for gc). Originals should still be fine as would copies (if you have a chip).

Either way same behaviour from usb. Disc in the drive, pick a game. Drive spins down and black screen, just as launching from disc channel.

A stack dump sounds like a software problem. I'm not saying that it is impossible for the modchip to be causing trouble, just that it seems unlikely. Is there any way to disable the Wiikey through the config disc? Recently I installed a disable switch for my YAOSM, but have had no need to use it, as it does not seem to interfere at all. Are the game images known good versions?

No, i can´t disable the Wiikey.
I can only deactivate Audiofix and Region Override with the config disc.
The Dumps are good versions, but thats not the problem, when even original discs fail to boot.

This procedure supposedly disables the Wiikey v1: http://www.ehow.com/how_5043183_disable-wiikey.html

Although it might be a bit drastic, disabling the Wiikey would eliminate one variable from the potential causes of the problem.

I use a wiikey v1, as stated previously, I do get a code dump with a hdd, but my pendrive works perfectly fine, which leads me to believe it isn't a wiikey related issue if one device does work

yeah, intentionally pulling power in the middle of flashing the wiikey doesnt sound like the best bet of all time

though if it 'does' fix gc booting, do you really need it anymore?

edit: honestly its probably just a coincidence that you have a wiikey and its not working, as I said, my hdd does not work even with proper 32k formatting, just code dumps, but my pendrive works fine, tested Twilight Princess, same exact dump on both devices. HDD shows dios mios logo, then code dump. With any luck compatibility will be further improved

That shows that DM is reading from USB with Wiikey installed, which is a good sign. I still think that the problems others are having lie elsewhere, likely software, or perhaps something in the installation/naming/directory structure is wrong. Also, remember that drives with 64k clusters will not work.

I tried turning off the region free gc hacks from preeloader just in case.... but nothing changes seting up another drive to test

Hmm, sounds fishy.
How should i run the update disc once the wiikey is deactivated?

Step 5: "Reactivate the Wiikey by inserting and running the 1.9s config disc in your Wii. Once it has completed installation, hold down the "reset" key of the Wii and wait three minutes. Turn the Wii back on, and the Wiikey will again be active."

Yes, it is drastic.... and given that other Wiikey users have reported that DM works, that lends more credibility to the notion that the problem lies elsewhere.
