Was wondering about StarFox Adventures.
It says "No voice in cutscenes, cutscene subtitles are late".
What is the reason for this?
Is it fixable or is it some SD bottleneck?

Thanks:)

It's caused by the game itself.
It's a game using Audio streaming, which has compatibility problem with all Gamecube booting method on the Wii except with a drive chip (modchip, like wiikey).

Depending on the game, you may have different effects, like loading a sound effect or a voice which has nothing to do with the current action you did.

I always wondered.... how it works? whats the difference between audio streaming and "normal" audio?
I really want to play Ikaruga with music but Wode doenst support audio streaming. Maybe swiss with an SD Gecko will do it.

Does it lag even with original disc??
Doesn´t that, i mean, can´t you complain to Nintendo about it?
As it seems weird that games using streaming audio has problems;S

EDIT: Think you meant Drive = Working;P

But, can this be solved?
Or is it proved that it´s impossible or something?
What is causing the problem?
It it the Async reading or something along the lines?

For audio streaming the drive uses a direct connection to the DSP to 'stream' the data.
This makes it pretty much impossible to get audio streaming working with anything but a drivechip.

WODE could do it since it is placed inbetween the drive and the mainboard but for some reason they didn't implement it.

I see, but why can´t you stream from SD?
There is probably a reason, as you said it got a direct connection i guess you can´t "emulate" it or something like that.

Well sad thing is that i got a New drive so can´t play my backups on it, but well can play the originals in worst case:)

But would be awesome if it could be solved, like maybe having an SD Gecko that streamed the audio if it can be maintained, and the other SD the game(probably impossible though, seems to complicated, if even useful at all).

For audio streaming, the drive is told by the game to play stream xy from offset z. And then the drive reads the data and directly sends it to the audio processor. When you load games from sd card, sd gecko or backup disc, you have 0 control of the dvd drive, so the dvd drive can't send stuff to the audio processor. For WODE and any other chip that replaces the drive, it's technically possible to do the audio streaming, but the WODE team had to decide beween ripping retail discs and audio streaming, or something like that...

You could play the audio streams as sounds via the ppc, but for this you would need extra processing power, additional memory, a thread on the ppc(!), code to convert audio streams to playble formats and most likely something else i don't even begin to understand. Before people start bugging about this and spam the thread: If you really want to talk about this: Do it in another thread.

Okay, seems that Gamecube functions are rather unique, i like it:)
Even if it makes life hard sometimes;)!

I am done asking, thanks learned a bit more about it!

I can't wait to see what can be done with the Wii U (despite lack of Gamecube support). But that is a long way off. And it'd be best to stay on topic.

IIRC there is GC support (of a sort) as in they are going to have GC games in VC?

I maybe wrong tho.

If true, that would be awesome. Although I'm not very willing to fork over $10+ for games I already bought almost a decade ago, but perhaps for the gems I missed out on.

This could be possible but I highly doubt it. Seeing that the Wii would be capable emulating the GC software-wise it still is a no go hardware-wise.

Maybe such kind of VC will come out for the WiiU

It will work the same as the GC games that were re-released with Wii controller support, like pikmin & mario tennis etc.

Well that I would not like. I mean sure it might work for some games like the Metroid Prime trilogy, but I'm sorry you can't be truly competitive in a game like Super Smash Bros or Mario Kart without a Gamecube controller. I think what would be fair is for Nintendo to create an add-on for the Wii remote that would allow you plug a Gamecube controller in (like a classic controller). By doing this then Nintendo could just offer Gamecube games straight up on the VC without having to add Wii play controls into every Wii game. Plus do you think third party devs would want to do that as well?

Either way though, to pull focus back to the real topic I just want to say that I fully support all that the devs have done so far, and although USB support would be nice I can see why, for the foreseeable future, it isn't going to happen.

I've always wanted to play Wind Waker With motion controls (similar to what Twilight Princess uses) I thought for sure Ninty was going to do this when they started releasing Mario Tennis/DK Jungle Beat etc. with upgraded controls, but it never happened :( I wouldn't mind having Mario Sunshine With motion controls too (Squirting the goo with the wiimote would've been cool):P

Will multiple .dol games ever work? Is that even possible?

They should work right now. Which game did you try and it does not work? Games with .elf files do not work right now, but that's possibly easy to fix. (well for half of those games)

Sonic Gems Collection has three .dol neither of them work, I get a black screen I'm using the latest rev.
