I have ordered an R4, and was wondering what the difference between a Japanese Kingston MicroSD and a MicroSD you buy at futureshop in Canada/US?

Basically, what is the difference between Japanese Kingston Micro SD and one that is bought in North America? or a SanDisk?

I am talking about a 512MB and a 1GB

I think you misunderstood what people mean by Japanese Kingston. They mean the place of manufacturing, not place of purchase. There are places in North America that sells the Japanese manufactured Kingston MicroSD.

The difference between the Japanese and Taiwanese manufactured ones is the speed/quality, which is important when you want to run a game because the faster the transfer rate is the better chance it'll allow games to play smoothly without crashes.

So how can I tell from the packaging that the MicroSD is made in Japan?

Also, are all MicroSD cards manufactured in Japan good? Do they run at 100%?

aren't there 100 posts about this already?

anyway, I think the kingston brand is the best one for m3 / r4 ... and the japanese one is the best one. I don't think you can tell from the packaging though. but it say's somewhere "made in japan".

you could always email and ask what it is

Thanks.

I was wondering since there is a computer store near my school, so I was going to buy one if it was a good price.

well, looking at mine, you should see if it is japanese by looking at it

on the front of the little card, it says:

"Kingston®
1GB
microSD
0703U46327U (maybe isn't the same)
SD-C01G JAPAN"

so look at the bottom of the card

If you ordered online (from a very reliable site, and is very cheap) can you give me a link to the Japanese MicroSD card from Kingston?

I am looking for a $10-15 one that ships to Canada.

well check dealextreme.com
it's hongkong-based but they're shipping it to sweden for free
$45 for the R4 INCLUDING japanese kingston!
not sure what the memory alone would be, but probably free shipping as well, and cheap!

Is this the only MicroSD card that will work 100%? What about sandisk? I am looking for a 512MB that will work 100% Any brand.

Hmm I'm interested in how Sandisk is as well I bought a 2gb sandisk, not the ultra II version just the normal cause it was cheap. I'm worried now it might be sluggish or something.

To tell the truth: I've never, ever experienced any slowdown using Transcend's plain card (not even the fast model). Also, Toshiba's are completely the same as Japanese Kingstons. So why the hell does everyone try to get a JPN Kingston model (and in most of the cases, fail)?

Toshiba microSDs are harder to find in the US, and last time I checked they cost twice as much.

The two Sandisks I`ve tried have been ungodly freaking slow. As in unusable level slowness.
I haven`t the slightest idea where they were made as it wasn`t written on them, but they were purchased in Japan. I actually bought them super-cheap for my cell phone, so I didn`t really care, but decided to try them anyway.

I use Toshiba normally. They are just as cheap as any other decent brand here in Japan, and they`re always very fast and reliable. Never seen a "Kingston" before in my life. Are they like a US brand?

despite the speed differences between taiwan and japanese kingston microsd's, theres also a 30MB difference in the 1GB version!
taiwan=952MB
japan=982MB
