Hacking Did I break it?

I'm not sure, actually. I assume that it is, because it's an r4i card that I use to play DS games. That card has been in that slot since I softmodded the console. Since the day I received it, actually. I threw all my NDS dumps on there and haven't modified it since. (Well over a year!)

The card was in there when my brother "fixed" it, even.
I'm 90% sure that was it then. DS Carts (flashcarts included) can sometimes cause erratic behavior with booting on a9lh, though I haven't been able to replicate it consistently.

A DS cart can make the system act as though A9LH is installed but have no ability to launch payloads? Interesting.

Sure wish this was documented somewhere accessible. If I'd have known to try this, i sure would have.

Hm, I might have misread your post. Whenever I've seen weird behavior caused by DS carts, it would boot payloads but not boot the OS, not even after a NAND restore.

It might be an issue with your SD card reader on your 3DS, then, as it seems like it isn't detecting the contents of the SD card at all.

But it was! It would immediately shut the console off if I did NOT have an SD card in, or REMOVED arm9loaderhax.bin from the SD card.

It's seriously mind boggling. :(

That's super weird...

The payload_stage2 attempts to open an arm9loaderhax.bin and if it succeeds it jumps to it, otherwise it turns off - it doesn't check if the arm9loaderhax.bin is valid. It might still be possible that the card reader is damaged somehow and the arm9loaderhax.bin is corrupted when it's opened, but honestly I'm just taking a shot in the dark here. I haven't seen anything like it before.

That was the only reasonable conclusion I could come up with also. As the console is currently booted and I have SD card access (albeit now on an outdated version of Luma3DS) I am going to update Luma, remove my DS flash cart (just in case) and pray to the 3DS gods that it comes back from the forced Luma update reboot.

Wish me luck.

It came back. Multiple reboots later, it's still going somehow. I'm still gonna leave it alone. Apparently this thing wants to die, and I need it alive lol. Back to my S4's horrible battery until I get my replacement.

Thanks for the insight guys. I'll let you know if it happens again. If anyone can explain what might have happened on a technical level, feel free. I'm damn curious to know.
