The company behind the Resident Evil films has bought the movie rights to Capcom's stylish action game Devil May Cry.
Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment's Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, aims to kickstart a new genre franchise according to a Variety report.
Kyle Ward, one of the writers of the upcoming Kane & Lynch movie, has been hired to pen the script. It's all about Dante, thank goodness, who avenges his mother's murder by killing demons. Sounds about right.
In videogame land, Devil May Cry is undergoing a reboot at the hands of Enslaved developer Ninja Theory.

I guess I'm the devil because I may just cry. This is sickening. Devil May Cry used to be one of the most kick ass series out there. Then they put out DMC4 and we couldn't even play as fucking Dante. Then they're "rebooting" it with this really shitty prequel to a prequel (since DMC3 was a prequel to DMC). Seriously, they're smearing the good image of one of video gaming's greatest franchises and one of video gaming's best bad asses.
The anime wasn't bad, why can't they just do that for fuck's sake? Ugh, my rage level is rising.
