Hacking D2X and cIOS 249 Confusion

I wouldn't delete any IOS slots. They are not conflicting, so it doesn't bother.
the only issue would be limited space of the wii, but it's not that big. a savegame is bigger than IOS.

You can update BC and MIOS to latest version without problem without updating boot2.
I think if you update boot2 to v4 you'll have to reinstall bootmii, but it works with v2 to v4 so it's not a problem. I don't remember why I kept v2 and didn't want to update it. I'm often using "don't fix if not broken"


One thing I don't understand and don't know : what is your slot 255 ?
never heard of it, and it's the second time I see that slot on someone's syscheck.
it's probably a patched IOS to provide Flash access, but no idea which program install it, not which one use it, and for what purpose that AHB access or other cIOS can't do.

Thanks for the info. I will go ahead and update MIOS and BC then, and keep boot2 on that version. Because just like you, I remember there was a reason that I didn't update it at the time. I just can't remember what it was. I think maybe because unlike other IOS, this wasn't downgradable.

I don't know where 255 is from actually lol.. so a little google search lead me to this thread:

it's too old and I don't use it anymore, so I didn't force myself to remember details about it.

I don't remember the differences with 9.9x and 9.99b
even if I didn't update when it was released and get access to 9.99b, I wouldn't do it now.
if you have to update the wiikey, it would be to install 9.9s (SSBB version) with the fix to the Dual Layer access.

I don't remember if 9.99b had bugs or also fixed everything.
If I remember, I think 9.9x had better gamecube disc audio streaming support, and latest version of wiikey firmware broke it.

Well, there was the x3 disc reading, when it was supposed to be reading in x6 speed that was fixed, among other small things. The only thing I don't know is whether it broke something in the process lol

Like said on that post, I'm not sure if this is 9.99b which broke audio streaming or previous version.
Let us know if you try it.
though, replies on that thread tend to say everything is working fine with 99b.

what I liked with wiikey was their tool, along with the Wiikey settings editor program, it had a gamecube mode loader (to load gamecube homebrew natively), I used it to backup my memory card save (MCBackup) when no other tool existed yet.
I don't remember which settings I enabled or didn't enabled.
