Hacking D/P HELP! (Technical)

Hey, It was going perfect untill yesterday when I went up to talk to the 4th gym leader and he said his few words, then going into the battle screne, the screens freeze and the bottom screen goes white! The music is still playing in the background. I cant do a thing, so I have to turn it off.
Any ideas? All I can think of is to keep my save file and mabey patch the rom with differnt settings?
Would that work?
