Is it possible replace the music in a DS game, with your own?
It is possible, there was a thread about it a while ago. But it involves changing heaps of stuff and packing and unpacking the ROM. In the end, No is isn't really.
Ok,thanks for the replies.
Isn't a better answer that it depends on the game.
For something like TWEWY it isn't that hard and I pulled it off with little prior experience with DS ROM hacking. For Pokemon its a little tougher, other things outright NO.
Why is it easy for TWEWY?I was thinking about replacing the music in GTA.
TWEWY uses a format other than SDAT (adx) which most other DS games use (it is still a rarity to see a game not using it) so it is simple to generate new ones and from there it is a basic file replacement.
As others say it is possible but very hard if you are going into it cold (someone versed in basic DS formats will probably feel right at home), some threads that may help you:
Thanks for the links.I am new at this, but I'll see what I can do.
I used dslazy to unpack the rom, but I didn't see any sound files.
They aren't regular sound formats. So you wouldn't recognise them.
I did it just fine, and it's rather easy to be honest.
With Chinatown Wars?Could you explain what you did?
Not really. Here, I'll provide evidence if I must:
Forgive me, Moderators. But I needed to post those as evidence to show that I can indeed change the soundtrack of a game.
