I think what Kazo did's more impressive, but this is also a thing:

It's pretty fun, I was able to get a few writes working with Mario kart myself. Of course, getting anything fun like online cheats working would be a bit of a hassle, but certainly possible if you can get it running in its own thread.

when ever i write a data to a file there is always this what looks like garbage data for the first few hundred bytes. if i dump say 0x10000 bytes to a file the file would be 0x10210 with the actual data starting at 210.

For those playing Pokemon worried about this creating online cheats. Don't worry about that too much. As we all know from experience, using home menu to suspend a pokemon game immediately causes internet disconnection ingame. So nope, you won't be seeing people injecting super hackmons into the game in the middle of a match. ;)

The hack checks being done in multiplayer won't be defeated by this....Unless someone is very creative with this and has a lot of time. Aka, it's going to be quite awhile for online cheats in the pokemon world.

The rest of us can use this for more legitimate reasons. :D

Can't really do that anyway, but if separate threads are possible, health cheats can certainly happen during multiplayer (Only as host, though).

It's okay, though. You can already do that by editing your Personal Stats file. Just ask SciresM about it, he made a nice tool that makes it super easy. ;)

I would just like to say that I think cheating online makes you a massive douchebag and I highly disapprove of using ROM hacking tools to do it.

That's interesting. I wonder if you were to alter the rom so that a move like "Hidden Power" is altered to behave more like Sketch? Since the match was started with a legit move on the pokemon, the servers won't see it. Though the client to client mismatch could produce issues in network interaction. I wonder what exactly the limits are in this kind of thing. :P

I agree with you on that. My current rom hacking in Pokemon is just for a randomizer LP. I personally wouldn't use it to gain an advantage in online play.

Though it's certainly interesting from a technical standpoint. I say hackmons on matches over the PSS with friends who agreed to it (like in FFAs) are ok as long as those involved are aware of it and agree to it. But for all over circumstances, cheating in mulitplayer is definitely a no no in my book. :P

This works in Battlespot? Who exactly is the host in that situation? With Battlespot, it's a little vague. :P

I did a bit of research into it a while ago. I'm sure you could manipulate who is host simply by having a better connection, but you know you're host if the opponent sends their ball out first. If you send your ball out first, you're the client and edits won't work. Look at the video for an example, the opponent threw his mon out before me.

You can force yourself as host by initiating passerby battles. Accepting battles from others will make you the client.

Personally I dont care much for hacking online I just want to be able to use PKHEX without a flash card

Ahh I see. Makes sense. Either way good work with that. It's always interesting to learn about these things. Getting to know the inner workings of a game I'm interested in is fun. That's why I was so big into modding Battlefield 1942 awhile back. :P

As long as you're host, most damage outputs and stuff are controlled by you. You can do pretty much anything, but the other player may not see it.

They will see damage taken and done, though.

Are the character model swaps easy to do? Love how some of them turn out with missing animations :P

I have a question I've never seen anything about. I know that Nintendo releases some games on eShop that are retro games running on a Virtual console. Is that virtual console prepacked, or is it on the handheld like DS Mode? If so, I wonder if we could inject our SNES/GBC/GBA games with this.

Hmmm... Maybe so! It depends on how the rom loads. If the rom loads into memory all at once, I don't see why not!

How exactly would I do this? So awesome :D

Also, do you need 9.2 for this? *crosses fingers*

It's just a rom edit, but yeah you need 9.2 or under and a Gateway to run roms. It's sad, but it's the only public way.

You're right, make a thread about it.. maybe even your findings :P

Ha, I didn't really find much. I did a bit of editing to the personal stats file before SciresM released his tool, but it definitely does make things a lot easier. You can thank him for that.
