    This doesn't help accomplish anything.
Why should we care about exploring space?
Don't quote Tyson at me. He's an idiot.

If you can't understand it already, words would only be lost on you.

In before conspiracy theory about it being done with cgi graphics and filmed in a studio!

"one step closer of human footprint on Mars" Yet nobody has been "back" to the moon?

Trillions of $ in debt this is exactly what is needed!

So, we've explored Mars. It's not a planet we can live on, what is the point?

We havn't even fully explored our own planet. What makes you think we have "explored" Mars?

It was theoretical. Why bother poking around on Mars?
The idea is about as good as making a car that can't drive.

Well, if you don't understand at this point, it's likely you never will.

They are still looking for life and data. Data that can help us terraform or at least colonize
Mars. We may even find other things we haven't foreseen.

You didn't have to believe it would happen, but people want to go there and at least give it a shot.

I expect when I am an old man to go visit this rover in the museum :)

    On Mars of course.

You haven't made the slightest attempt to explain.

Why would I make the effort to explain it to you, if you don't make the effort to care about it?

Exactly. It's almost like dragging a friend to a movie they hate.

Maybe I would, if you mentioned a point, like KingVamp did.

That you didn't respond to KingVamp suggests otherwise.

    Sweet, one of you.

    What's in it for us?:

    http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/sectionfront/life/from-cell-phones-to-computers-technology-from-nasas-space-program-continues-to-touch-everyday-life-350199/

    http://www.futureoftech.msnbc.msn.com/technology/futureoftech/what-has-nasa-done-you-lately-lots-84427

Okay, but why is it so important today?:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Columbus

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Magellan

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_and_Clark_Expedition

These are just a few of the very important explorers in human history, no? Well, to put it bluntly: exploration and discovery are absolutely integral to the growth and advancement of the human species. Space travel is parallel to this. We would have sent unmanned robots to the Americas first if the technology existed.

Earth ain't forever. You and I will probably be here our entire lives, but Earth won't always be the ideal place for life. Eventually, we must travel outward. Without first sending manned missions and unmanned missions, venturing into the unknown is suicide.

Okay, okay, but what about Curiosity?:

Curiosity is arguably the most important unmanned vehicle currently existing. It's uses are vast, and can only help serve mankind here on Earth. Everything it does there is information to help us survive.

And correction: We can live on Mars, eventually (2100's if we actually start funding R&D). Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, Uranus, Jupiter, the sun, most moons (if not all), all dwarf-planets, asteroids, comets, and objects past the Kuiper Belt are all completely uninhabitable for the far, far foreseeable future. So where does that leave us?

Space exploration is far more important than you could ever imagine. Read into it.

ok. I'll give it a go.
Did you see the lander? the one that opened a parachute at mach 2... the one that then went on to slow down from that to 1.5kkmph using retro thrusters... the one that hovered while lowering a vehicle to the ground... the one that then detached the vehicle and flew away to crash safely away from the rovet...the one that has a pluonium powered lithium ion battery... the one that will climb a 3 mile high mountain...
This is all extremely high tech. If aliens did exist on mars (for you I will assure that their are actually none, this is hypethetical) if they did exist and could look into the sky, we would, for the first time, land like real aliens should!!

oh do you mean after it lands?

well it will drive over to a known area composed of clays! clays are formed ONLY in liquid water. water = fuel.
then it will climb mount sharp slowly mapping mars history from past to present as it climbs by studying rock sedement layers.

then it will get to the top.

then it will climb down. it has enough power to last AT LEAST 17 years. it will be very usefull.

    I can see why.
