I was recently given a softbricked New 2DS XL to fix. It had been downgraded to a version prior to 11.4 (which a New 2DS XL cannot run without CFW) and then CFW was removed. I reinstalled CFW via ntrboot, but the console still wouldn't boot. It gave a Luma3DS crash dump, so I thought it was an issue with the CTRNAND until I used CTRTransfer to put the console's CTRNAND image onto another New 2DS XL. It booted perfectly fine, so I knew it wasn't a CTRNAND issue. I then used GodMode9 to verify the NAND image and it immediately found the issue:
Error: CTR MBR is corrupt. I assume this to mean that the master boot record of my CTRNAND image is corrupt. How do I fix this problem?
