Could there be a such thing as a cross-platform homebrew? What I mean is a homebrew where, if you finish, you get a code. Like the Oracle games for the Game Boy Color, you put the code in another game and the new game has different things.
Such as...a game on the DS, GBA, PSP, and GBC. All of these games would be like the Oracle games, where they were basically the same game on each system except with a different setting and story. Taking a code from a finished DS playthrough and putting it into a GBA would start a new game +. Putting that finished playthrough's code in a PSP would start a new game ++. So on, and so forth.
Could that even work?
