Yo guys, I just homebrew'd my 3DS. I figure it'd be a nice place to play old handheld Nintendo games under one house. I'm no expert when it comes to this stuff and have a few questions.

What's the 'steelhax installer' actually do? It's the only thing I've got on my homebrew channel currently.
Is there a store like the one on the wii?
When it comes to playing 3ds & DS games, what's the best route to go? Is it just get an emulator and loads some games on an SDHC, or is it better to a pseudo game card that fits into the slot at the back and load them onto that?
What are the basics I should add?
And is there anything I should be wary of when it comes to getting my 3DS banned?

Any help appreciated.

Do not cheat online unless you want to be banned...
If you want to play GBC, GBA or GameBoy games, download an emulator like RetroArch and install it via FBI (You'll obviously need the ROM of the game you want to play).
There's no more free stores (like FreeShop, which recently died), go to that iso site to download games, then import them to your console and install them via FBI too.

I believe that's it.

  • The Steelhax installer installs the exploit so you can launch the homebrew launcher easily with the game steeldiver subwars
  • On the 3DS, there is the Nintendo eShop. But, in the past, there was the freeShop (now useless since nintendo fixed it server-side)
  • For 3DS games, do not buy a linker like the sky3ds, it's very expensive and less packed in features compared to standard CFW.
  • For DS games, you can buy an R4 flashcart (100% compatibility | 10$ ) OR you can use TwilightMenu++ (90% compatibility | free)
  • A lot of the basics are covered by the guide
  • There is always a risk of being banned when modifying the software. However, as long as you don't use cheats online or do anything stupid... the risks are very small.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. Think I've got one of those r4 cards laying around somewhere. How do I actually run that? Do I need some sort of app in homebrew for it?

If your R4 card is new (ie. 2017, 2018) you probably won't need anything else. On the other hand, if you have an original R4 card or one of its many clones (which are older than the previous example), then yeah, you'll need an additional homebrew (and a couple of other things) to get them working on a 3DS.

You can find one of those over here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/r4-stage2-twl-flashcart-launcher-and-perhaps-other-cards-soon.416434/

Heh...i was one of the lucky ones. I used NTR Cheats on MK7 online and never got banned. Smash is another story as back then i had a O3DS. I got a N3DS this year.
