I've searched and looked around a bit, but I'm confused as to what firmware I should use, what with the custom FWs.

I haven't used my (genuine) TTDS for a while. Was the official FW discontinued? I'm just looking to run some of the latter games, so if someone could simply let me know what the latest / recommended update is, i'd really appreciate it.

"1.17a12sp6" will do you just fine, just keep up to date with the EXT, INFO, SAV releases.
