Considering the screens turn on pretty late when booting the console, something must be triggering them turning on in software.
Could it be possible to prevent the top screen from turning on at all in order to allow a console to work with it missing without any hardware modifications?
EDIT:
If anyone else is wondering about this, it appears the register at offset 0x44 in the configuration registers of either lcd controls power to its respective lcd.
