I was trying to convert Mario Golf World Tour to .cia so I could install it on my big SD card, and am able to properly convert it and install it, but it crashes every time I try to load the game.

I had previously modded my .3DS file to .3DZ and changed the header so I could play online. When I went through the process of decrypting and extracting the ROM, I just changed the name from .3ds to .3dz.

Is there a method of converting games that are already patched for online play to a working .cia format?

Thanks in advance.

Code:

FW7 don't work after conversion.

I've seen people with Smash Bros. working, and that game is definitely firmware 7.x.

Link me an example of working Sm4sh please :)

I was wondering myelf if you could convert 7.x encrypted games to .cia? also do these genertaed .cia games work online or do you have to convert them first to .3dz and then generate a .cia version?

Cia games don't work at all online. I'm sure someone will figure it out.

My Animal Crossing: New Leaf CIA game connects to the internet just fine, even downloaded the present. Haven't visited other towns at the moment so I can't truly confirm whether it works or not, but I assumed CIA games connected to the internet.
Just renamed by .3dz file to .3ds with included header.
Going to try installing Mario Kart 7 CIA now and telling whether it works online or not.

So you are able to use your animal crossing .3ds save to play online?

have issues with save game , work fine at start up , he save , but when you play and save , when you exit and return to game the save is corrupted

how you have done this wekker ? pls

I'm here to confirm that indeed, as long as your .3ds file includes a header, your CIA files should work fine online.
So, remember to include a header before converting.

What do you mean by, "include a header before converting"? Which part of the process does this step need to be added to?

Before doing the whole process is my best bet.
For me there's no point in not including a header to every ROM so all of my CIAS are capable of doing online.
The only thing you will lose from CIAs are saves from games you played in your Gateway card. I'm crossing my fingers so that someone finds a solution to this.

I have already patched most of my games with online functionality, and all are in .3dz format. So, I can use this same guide, and just rename, say, "Mario Golf World Tour.3dz" to "ROM.3ds", and it will properly convert to .cia, and function online?

Yes. Just confirm that the header you are injecting to your ROMS work online beforehand, can easily be checked using the Gateway card. It should work online.
The only hiccup you will definitely get from the process of converting ROMS to CIA will be editing your .rsf file. Some information there is very specific and if you don't put the correct information, your CIAs will simply not launch at all and you will get stuck in the 3DS screen with no error message.
There should be a list of all the working .rsf for each rom somewhere in this forum to avoid some headaches.

Should I edit the .rsf file to reflect the header that I used when patching my .3ds ROMs to .3dz, or the information of the actual ROM, itself?
