I've ordered a 'New' 3DS XL to play around with. I've downloaded a bunch of roms all of them are 3ds files, I've looked up guides and I think I get how to convert them I'm sure once I'm looking at the folders and stuff I'll be fine but I have one question.

The method to convert them involves putting the 3DS files on to the SD card, putting that into the DS, using an app on there to convert them to CIA, then using the SD card in my computer to add them to the 3DS installer and then finally back to the 3DS.

My question is does this mean my files will take up 3 times the space on my SD card, for example I've got Mario.3DS, I use the app and now I've got Mario.CIA.

My SD card now has
Mario.3DS
Mario.CIA

And then when install it then has Mario the game saved as well.

Or do the CIA files overwrite the 3ds and then install overwrites the CIA?

Once the cia is created you can use godmode9 on your 3ds to delete the 3ds file.

Then start fbi on your 3ds and select the option called install and delete cia.

Your cia will install then be deleted off your sd card. And you will just be left with your playable game.

Unless you decided to delete the files as they were added each one is on the card taking up space.
