im planning on buying a portable hard drive, which externals and portables work for the wii usb loader & what sizes ?

On a cBoot2-modded LU64+ with 4.0e firmware:

Doing network install the installer just hung on me at "Initializing Network" and then crashed/dumped on me when I pressed the home button after letting it sit like that for 10 minutes or so. I suspect it's because I'm on a lan cable vs wifi? At any rate, I'm sure the offline install would work, but I can't be arsed since I'm already on the rev11/LU64Fix version and everything's working for me.

I have some problems

Through Backup Loader Gamma Problems codes won't work everytime I boot Metroid Prime 1 Wii through disc channel it will go back to the system menu!

I went back to cIOS rev 9 Codes & Metroid Prime is Working

Google: USB Loader Release Wiki, HD compatiblity can be found on the bottom with link.

WD Passport Essentials 320GB and lower seem the best for compatibility. The Maxtor MiniOne, Trandscend and Verbatim all work well too according to user feedback on the compatibility chart.

mtb-bfh:

I've been using network install for both cIOS Rev 10 & 12, both over a WiFi connection and haven't any issues thus far. Maybe try Wad or USB Lan if you have a doogle.

Anyone know if this is copaitble with cioscorp. I tried rev 10 but had issues, rev 9 finr though

except they also have spindown issues

None noted here:

http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.php/USB...lity_List#320GB

And same from experience, though WD Passport Essential 400GB and above are reported to have spindown issues.

Please NOTE: The are several variants for the WD Passport HD's, from cheapest to most expensive:

- WD Passport Essential
- WD Passport
- WD Passport Elite

Spindown is tech used to save power when connected to laptop's, thus they are only implemented on more expensive WD Passport models and/or bigger drives in order to minimize battery drain.

my experience so far
no freeze on animal crossing
no problem with launching usbloader using cios 222
no spindown issues on my 250 WD elite (never had them though...) played for hours and seriously never had spindown problems

can we stop turning this into a USB-HD thread.... there have been a billion posts on that already..
lotsa ppl with a WD passport that work, some that DO NOT (have spindown CRASHES while some ppl don't, or it spins back up during game), while you can hook them up to yer pc (directly, not usb) and turn off spindwon with hdparm.
While seagate freeagent go (320gb e.g..) has software to turn off spindown thru usb, easier and full compatibility.
Choose either, be happy with it, don't post further here, this is a ciosrev12 thread.
