If you've been dissatisfied with the current state of Square Enix's Chrono Trigger PC port, it might be worth noting that the company plans to put out a few patches for the game in the next few months. Starting in April, the game will receive a patch that allows players to use the original SNES graphics, as opposed to the "remastered" option. Following that will be other additions and changes, which will be announced at a later date. Chrono Trigger is currently available on Steam for $14.99.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all of your feedback, patience and support so far.
We have been working on addressing the issues that you’ve raised, and will be releasing a number of patches over the coming months as we continue to support Chrono Trigger on Steam.

We’re aiming to release the first of these patches in the first half of April, and the biggest change is that it will include an option to switch between the current high-resolution graphics, and the original graphical style of Chrono Trigger.

We’ll post a full list of changes here when the first patch is released. For now, be assured that we’re working very hard on adjusting, updating and supporting Chrono Trigger on Steam.

As Chrono Trigger is going to receive patches over the coming months, we are going to extend the availability of the Limited Edition until:
5PM, April 30th BST / 9AM, April 30th PDT

Thanks again from all of us on the Chrono Trigger team.

At least they are doing something now. Let's hope they have learned their lesson and actually put effort in their next ports.

But i gotta be honest. The way the trailer hypes up the port, only to show off a tasteless and lazy port-moneygrab is vulgar. It is such a good game, i can't even imagine what they were thinking when doing so.

SE is a business, they want money, and they know there's a bunch of poor sods who're willing to splurge money on a shoddy port of a good game.

very true. They are just cutting in their own flesh by underestimating consumers to this extent. On the other hand call of duty is still pretty much a thing....
I am very glad that there was such a backlash from fans and i wish that would happen more often to get rid of bad practises in the gaming industry.

Romancing Saga wasn't known very well outside of Japan.
Even if that is true, it's still a game on the market available for purchase and people are likely to buy it. It still should be acknowledge that they should stop doing this with all of their games not just the popular one people know more about.

Never heard of it, nor do I have any inclination to play that game. I can't be assed to buy it, and now I have no reason to knowing it's another less than half assed port.

The sad part about this is, that if this was a decent port, and if sales were good, it could have shown that a lot of interest is there, and maybe we could have had SE actually do something with the IP. But, after the DS version not meeting their insane expectations, fat chance that will ever happen. :D

Step 1: Go to a Super Nintendo ROM Site.
Step 2: Download Chrono Trigger.sfc
Step 3: Open up Snes9x > File > Chrono Trigger.sfc > Open
Save $15 dollars and get a better game.

SE sure has an effective PR team alright  Only reason they're doing this is because of the negative backlash. But if the classic graphics mode completely removes the UI, I may consider :P

I paid $125 for the game when it was first released on SNES

I just rented it and dumped it to floppies on my Smart Bros. copier.

I did pay 30-40 for FF Chronicles, though. Before anyone bitches about load times, it loads better if you copy it to CDR and play it on a modded system. They done goofed pressing the original discs is all.

DS version is superior! :P

SNES/PSX translation is better, but it's not as distinct as some of the bad FF retranslations have been.

Speaking of dumping games, the Super NT's unofficial jailbreak firmware now allows ROM dumping, so if anyone has the original cart (I've the Japanese version), then they should do so until this is patched.

DS version is more accurate to Japanese script, SNES/PSX has localization charms.
