What are the best beginner mods for the DS Lite?

Hey Everyone, I'm new to this platform so sorry if I do something wrong, just let me know if that's the case.

Anyway, I'm considering purchasing a used DS Lite on Ebay (I found a listing for £21), but I want to mod it for a better play experience.

I don't have any experience in soldering, but I'm open to learning and I believe I have a soldering iron in the garage, I don't have loads of money for pricey upgrades or mods though.

The main thing I want is the ability to play games off an SD or MicroSD card (Or any card that let's me play roms) since DS games are expensive from what I've seen, any and all suggestions appreciated, thanks.

for hardware mods maybe a reshell or a charging port mod or a gameboy macro mod
as for software a flashcart(dspico)? with twilight menu?

and adding to this, as you get a DS Lite, you also have access to the gba port.
So in addition to the DSPico you could get a slot 2 card to have the best experience with GBA games and can even use some gba linkage functions with some DS games like pokemon DPP!

There are some more slot 2 options like rumble paks or ram expansions as well, that might be of interest to you.

Unfortunately most of those features are post game, the debatably more useful one (dual slot encounters) can be triggered any time via GameShark codes, which is worth considering.

Also these games can connect to a few wii titles such as my pokemon ranch or pokemon battle revolution.

Though in my experience you need to be on an older or specific version of twilight menu for this feature to work, however the stock DS Pico firmware works with it out the gate.

Either way, like both users in this thread say: I also advise getting a DS Pico mainly because it'll save you a headache from searching for firmware as this issue is alot more prevalent than it was years ago with other flashcarts
