You could just run it from the CD without installing. If you can get the WiFi to work from the Live CD it'll work after you install it too.

Even saying it twice doesnt make me a fan boy.

There really simple examples that everybody gets while at university on building an OS. Microsoft just isnt technology driven their implementations are something that makes Linux shine.

It is not my fault that most people are stuck

She: *asks to put Windows on her machine again, and lives happily ever after.*

Sadly, that's why Microsoft will always stay on top, i mean there's a prefect example. Unless this will be 'like windows', MOST people wont be interested.

When this OS is released i want to give it a go on a 2.17 Single Core, 512mb RAM PC, and see what happens

this is a decent enough PC...so not that interesting...

I'm going to give this a try on my 3-year old desktop when it comes out. XP is getting slow on it and I'll probably just use it for small, personal webhosting.

I ran vista ultimate fine on pretty much those exact specs (except it was 2.40ghz)

so chrome shouldnt have a problem running on it

I hope Chrome OS uses the stock Linux kernel and not a horribly edited one.

We'd get much better driver support.

And? Still doesn't make up for the fact that Linux generally sucks for driver support, having attempted to install Red Hat and PCLinuxOS on my laptop, half my hardware damn well wouldn't work, network card and USB hub especially and finding a video driver was dam near impossile.

Unless your computer comes with Linux on it or there are actually Linux compatible drivers for a desktop machine, then you are bound to have issues.

For those questioning if it will work for gaming, take a look at Gaikai and OnLive. I think these and other flash games are the only games for it.

I don't think it will have any "applications" as such. No .exes, no .apps etc. I think it is literally "switch on your laptop to get on chrome and use google's online tools". I think EVERYTHING will be web based.

It bothers me about what apps google will have for this, If they have Google Docs as a substitute to microsoft office, it will fail (unless they majorly update it), plus a host of other new applications...

Another thing that is worrying :- we all know Google records what you do when on google services, and they sell this information to other companies. Imagine EVERYTHING you do is recorded and sold to businesses. Transparency.

But I don't understand why they want to compete with Microsoft now after they have complete dominancy in the OS world. They should've started this a few years ago when XP came out or even 2000 but now I think its too late for them to try to be a threat or competitor to Microsoft.
