I thought the same. Did you know though that if you have some chips (WiiKey v1 with 1.9g or s) then you revert to 3x no matter what settings say.
This can only be avoided by staying at 1.9b, but by doing so you can't play SMG or SSBB etc.

imho 3x is bad for the drive, or at least the switching between speeds.

Anyone using the backup loaders is using 3x speed.
