Well for me, its not chinese new years just yet, its in about 9 hours when we go to this temple or something and burn incense. Chinese new years is something i dont really make a big fuss about but its cool and traditional no-the less. Im just wondering who here celebrates chinese new years be you asian or not

Also, what do you guys do on chinese new years if you celebrate it, light fireworks, get red packet money? ( for those of you that don't know what red packets are, there a chinese tradition where, someone gives you a red packet and inside is usually money.)

I've still got to wait 9 hours D:

even in china itself... they can only play fireworks on a designated area

We usally have a parade in the local suberbs with those dragon things (forgot what their called..)

My family doesn't do anything too exorbitant... just collect the lai see (Cantonese for the red envelopes) and chill for a bit with relatives.

We may or may not head on out to Chinatown, Manhattan, where there's barely any firecracker stuff. We still have shitloads of confetti, closed off streets, and lion dances, so it's not all bad.

P.S.- Sucks how it fell on the SUNDAY of President's Day weekend. (Non-U.S. folk: Nobody has work on President's Day. NYC students also get the week off.) Wasn't able to skip school.

this is the usual phrase we use to greet people

恭喜发财 = gong xi fatt cai = congrats and have a prosperous year (something like that)

新年快乐 = xin nian kuai le = happy new year aka happy chinese new year
 
I don't celebrate it in a religious sense. We just have a family dinner, play Mahjong, and that's it. Any money I get just goes straight to my college fund though.

On the day, remove all short cuts to those games and instead have maplestory and wonderking with me, i think these 2 games are forever popular.

On eve, i just watch cartoon, read some books and that's it.
