I was under the impression that wbfs's makehbc function would generate the dols needed. I haven't tried it, but that's what I got out of the readme. I'll give it a shot tonight.

Yeah I thought so too, but then I tried it and it only generated a couple of meta.xml files inside a couple folders...
You don't delete the boot.dol that comes with it. You need the cios usb2 beta 3 dip to use them though.

Ideally we could get a nice browser for these, but honestly something as basic as the homebrew channel with just png files would suffice.

The other menu as it is is nice for seeing space left and installing games, but once you have over 6 games or so you can't tell which way to scroll, nor can you customize how the game is listed there. Some of my games are in all caps titles, some just are lowercase, etc.

And putting them on the Wii menus themselves I can see as getting cluttered.

Still, unless theres an easy way to access a specific file on the USB drive yet, making this will probably be a challenge. I'll enjoy whoever accepts this challenge though! Once the basework is done we can make it look nicer.

It doesn't come with a boot.dol... cios usb2 beta 3 seems to be kind of impossible to find as well

Ok... yes... it should be 100% possible to make channels for each game (even though that probably isn't the best way to go).

You need to get the kwiiks usb cios found over at tehskeen. (If I link to it, the link will probably be killed so just look for it).

You also need the wbfswin delta, which comes with a boot.dol meta.xml and icon file.

1. Hook your usb drive up to your pc and run wbfsdelta with the makehbc command..... it'll make boot.dols for each game you have ripped to the drive.

2. Copy all the folders made to your apps folder on your wii sd card as well as the new cios installer (rename to boot.dol of course).

3. Now hook the drive back up to your pc and go ahead and install the cios via hbc.

4. While still on the hbc click on any of the icons for your installed games... the game should boot directly!

Now to make a channel... in theory at least, we would just take any homebrew wad and replace it's dol with the boot.dol for the specific game we want to make a channel for and via any of the wii iso tools we rip the banner and icon bins from the game in question and replace the homebrew wads bins with those. Poof! Custom channel for said game.

This should have been obvious, but the documentation for the wbfs was a little odd... it took me a while figure out so I thought I would share.

Enjoy!

ugh i knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww me too. maybe with what the source being releaed yesterday someone can look it over and code a 3d wii frontend that runs off png's.
I'm working on a GRRLIB port, not fancy at the moment and not everything works at the moment but it should look like the Wii menu when it's finished.

You can change the game names if you open the hard drives header with a hex editor (a tool which can rename the games would be easy to code but I never coded for windows

Just extract about the first MB of the drive, edit the names and copy it back.
