Hacking CECHB stuck in update loop. Wat do?

You can't reverse the ribbon, contact point is only on one side, not both side.

mine got stuck at 65% i did that and was able to pass 65% and now im on current firmware

And what good would that do? You are still using the same cable. If a cable isn't working, flipping isn't going to miraculous solving it. It is still the same cable, same circuit.

If you solved the problem by flipping the cable then cable itself is not the problem, but dirty or lose connection is.

dont knock it til you've tried it. I followed it from a youtube vid ( ik youtube isnt the best soure but wasnt s*** on here) and it worked for me. I said the same thing you said about what is it going to do.

For dirty or lose connection, simply remove and plug it in again. There isn't even a need to flip cable to begin with.

its a possibility mine was dirty i do spray air everytime i open it to clean the connections. That could be his issue

If it's dirty, use 91% alcohol (or 70% if you can't find 91%) with cotton swap to clean the tip. Let it dry then plug it in again.

Well, for what it's worth, I can't figure it out.

For giggles I tried opening it up again, and cleaning the contacts on the ribbon cable (and the drive and board) with 91% alcohol and taking my time so that it would have time to dry off. When I start up the system, at least having my hand rest on the BD drive, I do at least feel it spinning or doing some activity inside. Yet again, it's the same stupid problem where it refuses to let me to the OS, and is constantly stuck in the same update loop, and always errors out at 65%, regardless of what I do.

What I have noticed is that it doesn't seem to respond to me trying to put a disc in the drive, having my copy of MGS4 sitting around to try. Would that be my reason it is refusing to update?

Well, if this is correct, then it says that my CECHB has a failed BD logic board. I suppose the upside is that replacing the logic board is decidedly much cheaper on ebay than replacing the whole drive, which at least does sound like it is operating.

Problem is, right now i can't get it OUT of the recovery and attempting to update loop. If I format the hard drive and start again, the only way I can boot is in the recovery mode where it will insist I have to try again to run the system update, and end up in the same endless cycle. In order to do any re-marrying, I have to be able to at least get it into the XMB.

The PS3 as far as I can tell still is on 3.50 OFW, and any attempt to flash it to any other OFW or CFW is immediately stuck because it can't finish the update because of that nonsense.

It doesn't matter if you replace the logic/daughter board or the whole drive, you must remarry the drive afterward.

Probably the safest bet is to use hardware flasher to flash it to 3.55 CFW, replace the drive, then remarry the drive. You'll need to solder the flasher onto PS3 (since you have NAND model) and a PS3 Jailbreak dongle to put PS3 into factory service mode.

All in all, better to pay someone else to do all that. It'll be cheaper that way.

And why the hell won't anyone make a goddamn solder-free thing for any of these so called flashers?

I remember there was a way to at least flash some firmware that bypasses the check of the bluray drive so I could at least get to the *expletive* XMB, but every search result on google now either 404's or tries to install some blatant malware to get the file. And that even includes the so-called MFW to try and (re)build an appropriate firmware to do it.

Because unlike NOR model, required pins aren't all around the NAND chip itself.

I know some people actually de-solder the entire NAND chip, put it on a flasher, flash it, then solder it back to PS3.

Not to mentioned userbase on NAND PS3 is much smaller than NOR PS3. Flasher makers are doing it for profit too. They aren't going to make something if there isn't enough demand for it.

As for CFW, they do have builtin bypass for failed BD, but that's only if BD is not "too" damaged. Some checks are still performed and that's a hardware behavior, not even CFW can override it.

Considering the dick move Sony did to my CECHA, paying them $200 to 'repair' this one and take away any chance to run CFW on it literally is insult to injury, and far out of my price range.

Like I said, find someone to do both 3.55 firmware flashing and BD drive replacement. Go to PS3 Hax and look for people there.
