So, as a step away from semantics and fighting over whether or not it's really dead, I pose a question to you guys, mostly a matter of opinion:
What are the ramifications of this on the Switch backup scene? We can get system updates from XCI easily, so that's no problem.

But who really will go and buy games and game updates and dump them from cart/SD? I know that the proverbial "wheel in the sky keeps on turning" but will the availability decrease? Will only the most popular titles be available as .NSP?

I don't ask for any practical reason. Just a thought experiment and I want to hear your opinions.

The scene will be reliant upon groups like bbb. This is not so bad as history has shown us there are always people willing to do whatever it takes to provide.

I doubt there will even be a significant lag between retail release and posting of the dump.

well... piracy on every other console didnt decreased,
for example, even before freeshop, the 3ds scene was pretty good, games released to download ASAP.... i dont think will change so much

The same kind of people who bought eshop games on the 3ds, dumped them to cia, and even made "cryptofixed" cias for those who had a New 3ds and thus were limited to firmware 9.5 or lower on their emunand (with sysnand on 9.2 or 4.5, of course).

So... whats next?
Downloading the games from [censore] or [censore] and waiting for the next big think like "Freeshop Switchi Itchy 2.0 Load .nsp Directly from heaven with multicore hell certs"?

I doubt something like CDNSP will ever be done again. Only bet right now is find sites that have backups for download

We are still not 100% sure it is dauth. From new information it is a might be a new token X-Nintendo-DenebEdgeToken More information soon.
one can still have hope

Definitely no way. Least i don't think so given how secure the servers are now

And let's be honest, the real surprise here is that it was even possible to do that in the first place, and that it took Ninty so long to fix it. I mean, letting pirates download games directly from their servers, so on top of the loss of the sale, they actually have to pay for the bandwidth? This is seriously messed up.

That's nothing considering how long FreeShop was a thing on the 3ds

Indeed, that's what I meant when I said it was surprising it took them so long to fix it. One would have thought that they would have learned the lesson and block this on the Switch from the very beginning.

If its like 3DS, which it likely is, then its a signed token for purchase validity. You'd not have the ability to crack it as its just an authentication token given to you to then give back to the CDN, to allow a download of a title you own on your account. With the way the accounts check for authenticity now, this is most likely what they added.

You basically have to own the title to be handed a token.
