i recently installed gta iv, and like everyone else, am experiencing lag problems. so i decided to go to the nvidia site, and update my nvidia geforce 9600m gt. i'm 100% sure i have the right drivers, and i followed the instructions correctly. however, i keep getting this error message:

the NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. the setup will now exit.

my friend who has the exact same graphic card gets the same error message. are we doing something wrong?

here's the link: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_180.48_whql.html

edit: does it make a diff if i have 9600m gt or 9600 gt? i think the m just stands for mobile... but that may be the problem

The M series are annoying to get drivers for. Generally they are not included in any of the new releases. You should look for modified drivers that contain the right device IDs in the INF files (or just the INF files and replace them). Shouldn't be too hard to find

Or you can try to use these:

Which ARE from Nvidia fully. Older though and beta.

Jup, generally they work pretty well. Thing is Nvidia doesn't add them to the device list. Now they probably have a very good reason for it, but I dunno

. Anyway you can try that or try the beta ones from Nvidia.

Seems to be a good place for modified drivers. Might take a little while finding how to find em though

To help you out a little.
My video card laptop video card has this ID:
NVIDIA_G86.DEV_042E.1
Yours should be:
NVIDIA_G96.DEV_0647.1
or: NVIDIA_G96.DEV_0649.1
Kinda depends.
That should help you find drivers

No, you have a 9600M GT. Therefor you can't use drivers built for the 9600GT (desktop). Try these, older then the beta from nvidia though (you have 64 bit Vista right?):

Remember that you might still need to put the INF in there manually (simply replace it).

When I look at it it seems your GPU is pretty much supported by Nvidia itself. Try the beta link I gave you earlier, should be the latest out there (not always the best mind you). Seems Nvidia only provides beta drivers for mobile GPUs or something.....
