Hey every one, the title pretty much says it all really.

I've always always wanted an open source handheld, unfortunately I can't afford an open Pandora but I have managed to save up enough for either a caanoo or a wiz,.

Now I'll be using these to basically play my snes and mega drive games but every now and then I might dabble in psx or n64.

which is the better for this.

Many thanks.

Neither

JXD have just released a new handheld called the S5110B over the last few days. Looks VERY promising. Ive got the S7300 which is the same hardware just with a 7 inch screen and it will run megadrive and snes flawlessly so this new device will to.

Its 110 dollars so about £70 for the device so not sure if its in your price range. But as far as value for money goes, at the minute, I dont think anything comes close.

complete Vita rip off i know, but runs Android, dual 1.5ghz cpu, its no slouch at all. Runs most intensive android 3D games without a hitch also.

How are the controls on that?

Well with the S7300 they are really nice. Dpad is really responsive, as are the main 4 front buttons. If there was any issue its that because its a 7 inch screen, the L and R buttons on the device if youve got tiny hands are a bit of a stretch.

The analogue controls though Ive not messed with much, apart from a few minutes on mario 64 and they work fine. They feel like bigger versions of the PSP analogue nub. Not perfect, but do the job well enough.

Im thinking myself though now of switching to the S5110B because of the smaller screen, which should make gaming a bit easier on the hands. Plus the analogues on the newer one are more akin to the ones on the Vita, as opposed to the PSP

Thanks for the info, I got big hands, so big that the DSiXL still feels a bit cramped to me sometimes. None the less, I'd be interested in hearing your review should you pick up the new model and compare it to this one.

I just ordered my S7300 yesterday. After reading about it on the web, I've found that it appears to be the best Android based console out there... with a ROM update and a few tweaks that it. Nothing I can't handle, thanks again!

Yeah from the box you can go for one of two custom roms. I use NCCE 1.1 and thats been perfect for me. Apex launcher seems to be the best of the launcher bunch as well when you run NCCE (you get an option of which launcher you want)

Then its just a case of installing all your emus from the play store. (Even though they aren't free, the .emu series I've found are by FAR the best. So thats Snes9xEX, GBA.emu, MD.emu, Neo.emu and gb.emu for your consoles. Also there is a good version of mame floating around also.

If you read the forums over at Dingoonity you'll find a guide on how to increase battery life from a few edits with Build.prop. Its really easy to do and takes literally 2 minutes.

And last but not least, pick up a program called SetCPU from the play store. Little utility for setting the clock speeds per application on your S7300. If 60FPS emulation is what you want, youll need this to get perfect performance IMO.
