Homebrew Can't access eShop through HL?

Hi.
I have an O3DS v10.5. As you might guess I can't access the eShop the normal way, since the console says I have to update. I thought that using the eShop through HL would bypass this, was I wrong? Well, when I press the icon for eShop in HL the screen starts flickering, as I think it should. But then the screen freezes. Is the succes rate low or am I doing something wrong? I'm also wondering if you then can update games?

There's no need for a "guide". Just click on releases, download the zip, put the contents in your homebrew folder, and run it. The end.

It's a homebrew like any other, put it in the 3ds folder and run it.
The 'Usage' section reads:
"Just run the app, then if successful return to hbmenu [...] you can just return to Home Menu from hbmenu.
This can be done by pressing the START button, then use the option for returning to Home Menu without rebooting"
