Hi everyone.

I'm trying to setup redNAND for my friend, but I get this error "cannot write to the drive."
The SD Card isn't locked.

I've tried several times...

Any ideas?

The USB can't be formated anymore?
how could a USB be write protected? you can still mount and read it?

did you try a partition manager under linux or live CD, or even on the Wii ? (yeah, for example, formating the HDD with USBLoaders!), recreating a MBR.

It's locking the USB drive when using WUP installer?
did you get an error at install?
is it only with redNAND?

the more info the better to understand where or what is the issue.

And what makes you so sure of that?
Because I'm an expert enough to tell that my SD Card isn't write protected.

@Cyan when I press the power button in the "welcome to rednand" screen to format the SD Card, I get this error.

You can't read it, it tells you to format it but when you do, it tells you that it's write-protected.

I thought we talked about USB being locked to write protect mode, making the drive unformatable on another device.
edit: just saw your edit.
I suppose Windows tell you to format it when you plug it, I didn't know you could mark a HDD as write only. I'll have to read about that.

On a flash drive it's possible (being a eMMC and it can be locked, passworded, etc.), but on a HDD I'll search about it.

edit:
I found this for windows
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...-back-to/1cc985e9-01b3-46ac-9108-8bc8e7968f36

also, you can't really brick a hdd by messing with partitions, you just lost your partitions and your data, but the drive can be formated and new partitions can be created.

Not locked, bricked by messing with partitions.

Back on topic, when I press the power button in the "welcome to rednand" screen to format the SD Card, I get this error.

that's the only SD card you have? try a different one.
if it's a microSD with adapter, try another adapter (or put adhesive tape on the lock to be sure it's in read/write state)
I don't think creating an unnallocated partition manually would help, redNAND will probably re-create the MBR with partition table.

Maybe @dimok could help. are there any log of what's happening when formatting the card? could we know where it's failing? mounting/reading/formating/writing?
I guess it's "write" but is there a reason we could get or it just return a failed state when trying to write?

I have two microSD cards, one for my Wii U (redNAND works), and the other for my friend's (redNAND fails).
I used the same adapter.

There's no logical reason why my friend's card won't work, saving in Loadiine works for example. (That proves that the lock doesn't get loose when I insert the SD Card to the Wii U)
