If you get the error that says something like "Couldn't connect to the TV, make sure you're using the original power supply", it might be because you're not supplying your dock with enough power. Use the power adapter that came with your nintendo switch, and try docking again. If you somehow don't have the original PSU that came with your switch, just try to get a power cable (typically USB-C) that can safely provide enough power, like a charger from one of the newer macbooks if you somehow have one of those.

AFAIK, just connecting your dock to a plain USB port for power won't cut it.

this isn't the reality of it. the thing that bricks it which most people do not understand is that the cord used on most third party docks is a cheap cord without a resistor to regulate power which is what kills the system

again just to make it clear its the CORD that is the issue the dock really doesn't do jack shit
That's good to know - thanks. Just to confirm then, something like this should work well? I'll make sure I use a good quality USB-C cable with it

yea iam skeptical the lack of safety features in the third-party chargers are not helpful also but still, when you look at the board of og dock vs some cheap third party you can guess with one is OG because it has a lot more things on the board if these things were irrelevant for it to be safe and working guess who will get rid of it immediately? Yea Nintendo to save money.
From what I can remember that nyko? dock brick consoles because it has some microcontroller instead of even a proper pd chip so it was not a charger.

A year ago i was in the same place asking about docks i read and watch a lot about it.
After all, i sell my gulikit dock and bought used og plus some cheap replacement shells for better cooling :D I remember that gulikit admitted in mails to some YouTubers that they are just "guessing" how the Nintendo charging protocol is working and for me guessing is not enough. There is also a good video somewhere of how that guessing is working how many times Voltage is jumping on this kinb of docks vs how smooth it is on the OG dock.

Besides that used dock plus alliexpres swap shell are almost in the same price as third party docks.
