This may sound like a REALLY stupid question. Like, ridiculously stupid.

But is it possible to either get or make a homebrew app .nro that is able to bypass the paywall of Nintendo Switch Online?

For example, it can bypass Nintendo's Account checker for Switch Online with a false certificate or something along the lines of that. Alternatively, it could block account checking and trick the device into thinking it passed?

If yes, what are the risks? I am pretty sure there is a risk of being banned. How can we avoid such risks? Would encryption work? How would such a program function?

I know I sound stupid, and I am afraid of causing problems.

    No, it's not possible.

That being said, you can use homebrew to do Switch LAN play online. In other words, you can do free online play using homebrew with people who are also doing the same thing.

yeah, if you're legit, I'd recommend buying online. $20 isn't much. I use it solely for backing up saves.

I'm not sure if the switch has it, but you may be able to use xlink kai. people on the 360 use that, since jtag/rgh/rjtag can't sign in or be banned nearly instantly.

instead of blaming you for asking this like others here do, I'll explain to you why it's not possible:

See, If you go online Nintendo checks on their servers whether your account has an active Nintendo Switch Online membership or not. We would need to hack Nintendo's servers to bypass it which is 1. strictly illegal 2. almost impossible because of today's security standards

stop whining and just answer the question. This ridiculous remark doesn't bring anyone further.

There is no need to keep your Switch unhacked. If you create emuNAND and do all of your hacking on it, you can still play online by booting into OFW and playing legit games. Of course, you'll still have to pay your $20 to Nintendo. Although, if you are a Prime member, you can get a free year.

Just throwing in that NSO is still not great at all. But it's cheap ... so maybe there is some correlation there.
Either way, if you stay legit ... NSO is ok. But if you do anything in the realm of nsp, xci, save modding etc etc. well you risk getting banned al together.

Personally I have two Nintendo Switches ... which you could basically see as heaven and hell when it comes to that type of stuff ;) That is the only real way to be sure you can do both.

Pretty illegal and I wouldn't be surprised if nintendo will go after and sue people who uses or made something like this.

Why would anyone want to willingly pay for online access, when A) it was free when the Switch first launched, and the stupid paywall wasn't implemented until roughly a year afterwards; B) the money paid to get through the paywall doesn't go to third parties with multiplayer servers, only to Nintendo (or Sony, or Microsoft, depending on the system), making paying to play online with non-Nintendo games pointless; C) no previous Nintendo console - the Wii, Wii U, or 3DS - has a stupid paywall, so people can still have fun playing together on their 3DS or Wii U systems for free; and D) the PC scene has no paywall either?

Not to mention that the other 'benefits' of Switch Online aren't worth paying - the mobile app is garbage, and very few people care about NES games or most SNES games. People should be able to backup their saves locally too (without needing homebrew), which is something the PS3 and PS4 can do, and something I believe the Wii U is capable of as well; online backups shouldn't be the only option.

Are they still doing the free year of nintendo online through prime/twitch? I thought that offer expired last year. I checked when I got mine in November and couldn't find the offer anymore.

Well on PSN it used to be free for the PS3 but whenever the PS4 came out you had to pay. But bro its just $20. I spend almost $200 a year with xbox Gamepass Ultimate and believe me it is worth every single penny.

To answer your question it is about the server and bandwidth back in the day it didnt take much but due to supply and demand they now charge. If you are under 18 then I know paying would be an obstacle due to lack of funds because I'm assuming the OP is under 18.

Switch online isn't the best and it is mediocre but they are in the right direction. Sony and Nintendo needs to take notes on how Microsoft handles online and their game pass selection because those SNES/NES/PS Now isn't cutting it

you know sony is the reason why I, and a lot of other people, will not save credentials online. they care so much about their own security, then the fanbase's is an afterthought. that pissed a lot of people off.

So there wasn't that much bandwidth being used in 2017 or prior? Before the paywall was slammed down? I highly doubt that; usage of online features would've likely been quite high back in the 3DS's and Wii U's heydays, especially when Super Smash Bros. 4, Mario Kart 8, and Pokemon (amongst others) were released.

Also, then why is there no similar paywall on PC? All we have are initial game purchase price (same as consoles, except Steam has more frequent and wider sales) and macrotransactions (just like consoles). No online paywall though, despite "bandwidth" supposedly being an issue.

Sorry to say, but I don't buy that as an acceptable reason. Also, it's not "just $20"; it racks up over time, and it's money you could've otherwise saved or put towards rent, food, future game purchases, car, uni fees, insurance, etc.

I understand what you are saying but just know that we are in the DLC era. We get half made games and then the other half you pay via DLC (Cough Pokemon Sword and Shield) also add Fighter Z to that. So you'll end up paying like $30 DLC per game.

I have bills and responsibilities as well but that never stopped me from my gaming needs. If paying is an issue they do offer free solutions like unofficial servers. Having the online subscription is good because of the cloud saves if your system die you can recover your files.

If you already spent $200+ on console and then games then the money online would be the least if your expenses you can also pay the $4 per month it's just all about budgeting. I can't really say much about online for PC because all the games on my gaming laptop I pirated. But for my PS4/Xbox/ Switch I pay for the online

It's just insignificant IMO the online for switch is dirt cheap compared to my Amazon Prime and Netflix and Apple Music that I pay per month. I guess just consider it as a luxury if the price is an issue they do have the free stuff. It isn't good but its free
