Yes it is but you need to run a cfw like mocha or haxchi.

Is there a good youtube guide out there on how to install the DLC, most of what I find is out of date. Thanks for your help!
It's simple Download mocha then put it on the sd card. Start the homebrew launcher and select mocha the wiiu will restart and will now be region free and have sign patches load the homebrew launcher again and select wup installer and install the DLC the same way you install games.

after i install my dlc do i have to run mocha to use that dlc everytime

Yes you do no other way around it sorry.
Do I put mocha in the root of the SD card?

Do you happen to have a link to the download.

I am older so I'm sure I can figure it out after about an hour of searching, thought maybe you can lead me straight to it.

Ok. Then hit homebrew again and install the Mario kart dlc. And then I should be able to play the dlc?

Does it matter if the main game is on system memory and the dlc on usb?

Because I don't see the dlc being useable after doing the above?

Yes, HBL, install, then play the game. Like it was mentioned before, you will have to run cfw or any sigpatcher before playing a game with dlc or it will say something about corrupt files

Yes it matters. Game, update, dlc, save, etc.. Should all be in one location. Either they are all on USB or system

O wow. So if you decide hey I don't care if I play with the dlc right now, it won't matter you still gave to launch mocha or the game won't work?

I am getting this for my kids and I don't want to be launching this everytime. They switch games alot

You could look into Haxchi and CBHC to avoid launching cfw every time (it will do that automatically and act like you launched it just by turning on the Wii u). You will have to buy a $7 eshop game.

Other than that, yes, you either have the game with dlc or you don't. There is no going back and forth

Could you point me towards a good guide for using haxchi? After I install this I can download the games that are eshop only etc?

You misunderstood. You need a compatible game for eshop to install Haxchi. Someone can probably lead you to a guide of some sort as I'm heading to bed. But I personally would just recommend reading it's release thread

There are basically 3 types of custom firmware (CFW). You will need to launch each CFW every time you want to play non legitimately purchased DLC (unless you set up CBHC with HaxChi

1. HaxChi. Best opotion IMHO.
2. Mocha. If you don't want to pay for a DS game
3. RedNAND. Dont... just dont.

If you install HaxChi you can then use CBHC (Coldboot HaxChi) and make it so your kids turn on the Wii U, click a game and play.
