Hardware Can I disable DVD drive startup?

Is there anyway to disable the DVD drive startup noise? I use my Wii mostly for playing Netflix & such, it's just so annoyingly loud when I boot it up. Seems to always wake the gf.

I'd prefer a software method if there is one, but I'm not shy of opening it up to disable it as well as i never actually use the DVD drive anymore.

No, it's part of initializing the drive. If you disconnect the drive games won't run, either.

Hmm you could always cut the wire to the drive's motor. shouldn't cause any problems.

edit: I believe it may just be a ribbon cable to the dvd drive motor, theres also 2 other motors. just make sure the drive's pcb stays connected cause yeah disconnecting that will cause problems.
