Hacking Can I backup my friend list?

So in a couple of days I'm gonna install CFW to a friend's New 3ds xl using my own, and according to Nintendo once I perform the system transfer my friends list will be deleted and I was wondering if there's a way to back it up, since I play a lot of MH4U with some of them and I would hate to lose them.

I've read that it's possible if I backup both the emunand and sysnand here:

but does that even work?

do not do that method, and just do the single system DSiWare with a $2 game on his system,

but none of us have a powerful graphics card

My friend told me he wants to wait another week to install CFW, who knows why but he's the owner so it kinda sucks, I was really expecting this day
