Bypassing the PS2 laser?

    I would like to figure out if there's any way to remove dependency on my Playstation 2's laser from the equation.

    I play games off a 160GB hard drive and have a HDLoader 0.8c or Independence Exploit loader disc in the system at all times, so the only time the laser even turns on is when I first boot the system. I'd like to eliminate even that step, if at all possible.

    Unfortunately, all I know about the modchip in my system is that it isn't a DMZ4, so I can't install ToxicOS. [​IMG]

    My laser is getting old and I don't want to buy a new fat PS2 and get it modded just to continue playing games. I'm trying to prepare for the inevitable death of the laser and I'd really be grateful for any help getting ready.

    Nevermind. Found Free McBoot and installed it to a spare memory card. Awesome stuff.
