Hardware Buying another Wii U

Hi , I own a black 16G Wii U that is not on the latest firmware right now because I want to be able hack it once it's become available . Meanwhile I want to buy a second white 8G Wii U (console only without the gamepad) and update it's firmware to the latest so I can play online games on it . My question is if I do that , can I use the gamepad of my first Wii U on the second one even if they are not on the same firmware ?

Prolly just got to sync it and you should be good to go. Firmware should not matter.
