Yeah, usually people do 2x because it is slow enough to ensure a good success rate, but most decent drives nowadays can do 8x or 16x without any problems. I still use 6x but that's because I don't like the sound my drive makes once it goes past 8x.
Don't worry, it sounds like that when its loading something, except you don't notice it because its only a few seconds and there's usually music or something to distract you. Just ignore it unless it starts hiccuping or something.
No real answer to that. Some people always burn at high speed, never had a failed disc, and therefore claim high speeds are the only right thing to do. But other people are having excellent results with low speeds, and claim that is better.
Just try in 2x, 4x, 8x and 12x.
Then test the DVDs with apps like NeroDiscSpeed and look at PI errors, PI failures, disc quality score...
After many tests, I'm now burning in 4x because there are very fewer errors than 8x or 12x.
