Hey guys, I found a way to crash a european DSi with the already installed browser using a very simple method by pasting a specific link into the search box,

Since GBAtemp is a pile of shit with no way of fucking POSTING A LINK, i'll pm the link. what a pile of garbage......

I tried 2 DSi's, and a DSi XL. Both from germany.

Here's the original post, anyway. I'll remove anything gbatemp thinks is 'offensive'.

Hello, while browsing on my DSi today, I found a crash in the browser. (Softlock)
Here's how to do it:

Open Browser normally
Go to "Search"
Type this web address in: "REDACTED" without the " (into the search box!)
And click the first link saying: "discrete glamorous chimpanzee poster GIFs | Find, Make ... - Gfycat" (Direct link: REDACTED)
Accept all certificate mismatches
Softlock.

I think that either the address itself or something in the web site caused the crash.
If anyone can figure this out (or already has), then congrats. I think this could be an exploit.

If anyone needs other info that i could retrieve without a jailbreak i can provide that.

Thanks for your time,
unknowntrojan

First of all you can't post links to the site simply because you are new here. After you have made a set amount of posts (can't quite remember the amount) you will be allowed to post links.

Secondly just because you have made the browser crash does not mean it can be used for an entry point. Sadly it's not that easy if it was then pretty much any piece of software could be used as you can crash all software if you know what you are doing.

The DSi web browser crashing really isn't that amazing when you consider a few factors and limitations of the DSi. The browser really didn't have a lot of resources to begin with, so it was very limited right from the start. This is coupled with the fact that the browser hasn't been updated in years and it's not optimized for the web of today. Basically crashing the browser isn't that special and it's going to become more common as the days go on.

Correct.

Also, it's not useful, the way you're describing it. It's more of a null-deref crash (useless). These happen mostly with old browsers. So visiting a website that's big or runs too much javascript or something can cause an unexploitable crash since the DSi can't handle big pages or scripts of code. So I personal call those stress-crashes. :p

But there you go, now you know it isn't useful. It's extremely hard to find a useful but on the DSi Browser since it just uses Opera. Opera is closed source as well. :/
