I planned on sending this CECH-2001A off for downgrade tomorrow, so I went through and tried to make sure everything was in working order only to run into a big problem..
In the first few attempts to try to run games on it, it worked but with strange sounds. (sounded like the disc was spinning against something making a scratching sound, then made crunch sounds..) Multiple discs did this, all ran, but PS3 became EXTREMELY CRUNCHINGLY LOUD before all sound completely stopped.
Now today it makes no noise when inserting discs and will not even read them at all. I have tried games and DVDs, none work. Edit: I am now getting a persistent faint spin sound from my discs (does this eliminate the laser as the problem?)
What am I looking at here, and what are my options? Would love to avoid purchasing a new Blu-Ray drive, but it is a diagnosis I am willing to accept
