Hi. Just got my first brick ever. Just want to know why.
New set, recently bought in Australia. Black N3DS (non-xl). Not used before, not even connected to the Internet until I started modding.

Originally, at 9.9E. Downgraded to 9.2 using SysDowngrader. Twice, second time finished NATIVE_FIRM and restarted. Got back to home screen, open HBL, launched Decrypt9 and made a NAND back up. Restart again and tried SafeA9LHInstaller, blank. Restart and tried again. Got into the program. Pressed select, process started. "All check passed..." appeared. Normally it would go into another screen and start the installation. This time, just blank. Waited for 10 seconds, try pressing a button to turn off. No reaction. Waited for another 30 seconds, still no reaction so I held the power button to turn off. Trying to turn on again just blank screen, with or without SD card (screens are on, with power LED). Recovery mod doesn't work

And before you ask:
- No, the SD card is fine. Not corrupted. I've used the same card and files to install successfully on a few new 3DSes.
- No, I didn't do anything stupid. Didn't drop it. Didn't touch it except the select button. It was sitting on the desk with charging cable plugged in.
- Yes, safeA9LHinstaller is latest version, 2.5.7
- No OTP in the a9lh folder, safeA9LHinstaller will warn you about that

I will be getting a hard mod to restore the back-up. Luckily I did it before that. So no, I'm not looking for solution, just want to know why it happened. Thanks.

Update: entry point was browserhax.

Hard modded and tried again, worked fine. This time I used ninjhax though.

Sorry to hear that, I modded mine yesterday and it worked without a glitch the third time after getting black screen when I tried to boot it from hbl. What was your entry point?

At this point IF you saved a NAND backup, then you can have it hard-modded. Visit this thread for more info: https://gbatemp.net/threads/list-of-hardmod-installers-by-region.414224/

Second case in a few days. I think this is enough alarm to start being more careful and stopping OTPless installs for a while in the guide until we know what's going on. @Plailect @Aurora Wright

I've realized both bricks had something in common, the downgrade to 9.2 failed at first try. They had to do it twice. Both european consoles as well.

When I do OTPless with my 10.7 US N3DS, the downgrade to 9.2 also failed at first try. So may be that's not the case. May be only occur on EU N3DS?

Browserhax entry point was used. Tried again with ninjhax after hard modding. Was fine.

I did mine using Browserhax on a 9.9.0.26E unit, and had zero issues. In fact, it was so quick and easy I have a nervous feeling something will go wrong any day now.
